Hi! My name is Guadalupe Rivera and I am the Success Manager at Momentum Education, as well as Sociology and Global Latinx Major and Student Researcher at Trinity University. I am interested in learning more about the intersection of Indigenous methods of healing and Western medicine, although right now I am part of a research group that is researching the impact of family communication on the mental health of LGBTQ+ youth in San Antonio. I love to work out, create art through painting and photography, listen to music, and spend time in nature. I am not sure yet what the future holds for me, but I look towards it with hope and excitement of what it will be for me. I also encourage all individuals to seek moments of rest, whether that be creative rest, mental rest, sensory rest, emotional rest, spiritual rest, or physical rest, to be able to do everything they choose to do with love and find a sense of purpose in their communities.

I had always had a passion to serve others beyond the institutionalized world that we live in and to help others find a deeper sense of identity. As a low-income, first generation student, I have always had to find resources and scholarships on my own and something that I have always wanted to do is help other students who need resources find them and have accessible resources. When I first heard about Momentum Education, I learned that they focused on that and also provided so much more! In the time that I have worked for Momentum Education, I have found that this organization also offers a community. I have also seen how eager and excited the students are to be a part of the Leadership Academy and how grateful they are.

I am most excited to be a part of Momentum Education as the Success Manager because I get to be a foundational part of people’s journey in the organization. When a student interested in the Leadership Academy fills out their forms, I get to pair them up with a mentor and connect the student with the mentor, jumpstarting their relationship with the organization! I have also gotten to answer questions and talk to parents using the Spanish language to communicate, building relationships and community beyond the use of Standard English. I am also excited to see how these students do in the future and to see them reach their full potential. I recently talked to a student who is on the Pre-Med track at their university and was able to connect with them and talk about their aspirations. In this conversation, I was able to see that students are still encouraged to reach their goals through this program, even if the COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot for all students. I have enjoyed my time at Momentum Education working with students and mentors and I cannot wait to see what prospers from my relationship with Momentum!

Thank you Guadalupe for all of the amazing work you do here at Momentum Education!
