Hello, my name is Maria Arteaga and I am a current Human Communication and Spanish double major at Trinity University in San Antonio. Being from a small town in the South part of Texas meant that my whole life I would be surrounded by people that were just like me, that was until college when I decided to move into a bigger city and that became the challenge of a lifetime. I began to push myself more and branch out, excited to get to know more about the culture and the people around me. However, I never forgot my roots and IDEA, my highschool, was the place that kept me grounded with such great counselors that are always willing to lend a helping hand. Eventually leading me to take on this role with Momentum Education.
I am the IDEA Public Schools Coordinator that is responsible for making sure that our IDEA alumni get the resources they need to complete their college education through our partnership with Momentum. This opportunity is one I am very grateful for and I know I couldn’t have done it without the constant support that has been provided for me, this has become my motivation in making sure that all aspects of my job are done well. After all, I am very grateful for being able to form a part of the IDEA community and now the Momentum Education team.
After graduation, I want to be able to keep working with the Hispanic community in San Antonio specifically in education. By giving each student the resources they need to succeed and allowing them to make the classroom their own. Practicing the art of giving back.
